why are there so many conspiracy theories about rainbows?

"What is oozing out of ground that allows this type of effect to happen? Not just around our sun and our moon anymore. Everywhere we look, the visible spectrum is rainbows. This cannot be natural."

proto-Britney

Ahhh the 1960s!

This song is really catchy but also pretty problematic. It was written by Serge Gainsbourg for France Gall (seen singing the song at the Eurovision song contest in 1965) and it's basically about being a doll made of wax and sound to be molded by it's maker. In this case, Gall becomes the baby-faced, ingenue, doe-eyed, young, French, starlet, popstar doll to Gainsbourg's creepy producer/starmaker puppetmaster. For more on it check out the wikipedia entry.

There is another version of the song recorded on really early video technology. I love the way the sound has degraded, but it's pretty impressive that it has stood the test of time and can now be broadcast again via YouTube. You also get to see Gall actually singing, rather than lip-syncing like the clip above. And there's a live orchestra! Unfortch, the user has forbidden embedding, so you'll have to check it out by clicking on the link below:

swedish glam-rock cheese sandwiches

Does anyone else feel like we've stepped into a scene from Cormac Mccarthy's The Road? I mean, Jesus Christ - April showers can suck my lonely-assed balls! Basically, I spent my weekend watching really awful reality television, eating toast, and scouring craigslist missed connections in search of myself...

Ugh! I feel more cliché than a cheesy Swedish glam rock band:

many people as seen from above

Oh! surveillance in the digital age:

I found this clip while trying to catch up on the latest episode of America's Next Top Model. It's quite amazing... the movement of the crowd, the perspective of the camera, the stop edits, the sound track of sirens and people screaming, the editorial commentary on the part of the video maker. All these elements come together to produce this really uncanny and seemingly choreographed document.

For some reason it reminds me of this old British Airways that I used to watch when I was a kid. It's obviously choreographed, but it also demonstrates the power of seeing the crowd as an image/form from above. I think there is something specifically modern about this gesture and it provides a unique perspective that says a lot about the act of recording,
watching, and surveying.
